We all know that thinking, dreaming, planning, discussing things only get us so far. A successful life and business begins with a thought, the thought to finally start paying attention to your financial numbers more carefully, the dream to hire and work with more people, or the plan for a more targeted marketing and communications campaign, the discussion with friends, colleagues and mentors about the details when you do think about growing and taking your business to the next level. It begins here, but it can stop here too. In fact these four things could be a detriment to your success if they are keeping you from doing the one and ONLY thing you need to be doing in order to be successful. What is that one thing and how do these other things serve as barriers?
That one and only thing you need to do to be successful is TAKE ACTION. Thinking, dreaming, planning and discussing can be HUGE barriers to taking action because we don't always seem to know when we've done enough of each of these. I can spend months and years planning out the details of a project I want to launch. In fact that very thing happened to me. When I finally started taking action towards making it happen it took me 3 months total. I had been planning for it for over 2 years! This sort of thing happens less and less to me, because I have learned how to keep the voices in my head and the sensations in my body from ruling my behavior when it comes to action.
Your mind and body will give you lots of great signals and feedback on how and when to or not to pursue something, but it's not always accurate. You see, most of us carry something that can give us false signals and hold us back from success, and that is fear. Almost every single person I know and have met over the years has had some sort of fear they carried inside them and almost every time, they mention how it has worked against them. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of action, whatever the fear, it's there. And fear creates all sorts of valid reasons, negative thoughts and uncomfortable sensations in your body that tell you NOT do something, not to take action. So, you listen to your thoughts, and your body sensations and stay in that wonderfully comfortable fluffy cloud of a place and continue thinking, dreaming, planning and discussing.
So how do you eliminate that fear from ruling your behavior? You use this one phrase. "Don't even think about it, just do it." You can replace the word think with other things like, "Don't talk about it anymore, just do it." "Not one more minute of planning, just do it." Say it out loud, over and over again until you find yourself sitting down to do it, or walking out the door to do it.
This one phrase has helped me to take massive action towards accomplishing nearly every one of my goals last year and I'm on track to match that this year as well. I have fears too, I have failed and have had to tell myself, "NO! Don't even think about it, just do it Rubina!" I say it out loud to myself. I don't even care who is there. I did it in a cafe once and someone turned to me and said, "I needed to hear that!" We started laughing because we related as human beings who didn't want fear to rule over us.
Will the fear completely go away? No, but you don't hear the thoughts for that time that you start taking action, and when you take action, these great wonderful feelings of accomplishment start coming over you. Soon, you are taking so much action, that the thoughts in your head are all about taking action. You get addicted to it. Which is awesome because as Thomas Jefferson said, "Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask, ACT! Action will delineate and define you." You will truly learn and be the person you want to be, successful and accomplished, however you define that for yourself.
